A Poem
I sit there watching you as you walk.
From a distance, I see your hair and eyes,
I see the black bag hanging at your side.
You look serenely thoughtful,
Calmly aware.
I sit watching you taking out your keys
To open your door;
I love the way you open the door.
There are people gathered around you,
A lot of people talking and laughing with you;
The simple joy of easy communication.
Yet you don’t notice me,
Behind the crowd,
Sitting there watching you smile from a distance.
I get to hear what you say sometimes,
And you strike me:
The gifted, the intelligent, the witty,
The charisma you hold within;
It strikes me so.
And I fall deep into you,
So deep that I don’t want to flow back up.
I’m haunted by your being,
I’m obsessed with your detailed existence.
And all I ask for is that you don’t see me,
Sitting there watching you,
Thinking and building dreams
I know will never be.
From a distance, I see your hair and eyes,
I see the black bag hanging at your side.
You look serenely thoughtful,
Calmly aware.
I sit watching you taking out your keys
To open your door;
I love the way you open the door.
There are people gathered around you,
A lot of people talking and laughing with you;
The simple joy of easy communication.
Yet you don’t notice me,
Behind the crowd,
Sitting there watching you smile from a distance.
I get to hear what you say sometimes,
And you strike me:
The gifted, the intelligent, the witty,
The charisma you hold within;
It strikes me so.
And I fall deep into you,
So deep that I don’t want to flow back up.
I’m haunted by your being,
I’m obsessed with your detailed existence.
And all I ask for is that you don’t see me,
Sitting there watching you,
Thinking and building dreams
I know will never be.
